At a glance

  • Fans online blamed Trent Alexander-Arnold as former Liverpool teammate put Bayern 1-0 ahead against Real Madrid.
  • One Los Blancos supporter called Trent “the worst Real Madrid right back of all time”.
  • Like on Saturday in the 2-1 loss to Mallorca, the Englishman got his positioning horribly wrong.

Real Madrid and Liverpool fans alike slammed Trent Alexander-Arnold for his error at the Bernabeu on Tuesday.

Approaching half time in Champions League quarterfinal first leg tie between Los Blancos and Bayern Munich, Trent’s former Reds teammate Luis Diaz caught him out and put the visitors 1-0 ahead.

Trent is already in Madrid fans’ bad books for a similar blunder on Saturday. With him and Alvaro Carreras switching off, Verdat Muriqi smashed a stoppage time strike past Andriy Lunin.

Losing 2-1 to Mallorca, Madrid’s slip-up meant that bitter rival FC Barcelona opened up a seven-point lead at the La Liga summit after beating Atletico Madrid by the same margin.

And now, just a few days later, Trent is getting a grilling once more.

Trent once more the scapegoat for Real Madrid

Vinicius Jr. should shoulder some of the blame for playing a horrible backwards pass onto Michael Olise’s arm. But the way that Trent let Diaz get behind him to easily slot home while terribly out of position put him in the firing line once more.

On X, formerly known as Twitter, one fed up fan called him the “worst Real Madrid right back of all time”.

“Feel familiar?” Reds supporters asked one each other.

“You can absolutely see why Tuchel wants nothing to do with Trent Alexander Arnold. Literally useless at defending,” remarked another fan, of an England persuasion.

“I think we need to talk about Trent. The guy stabbed the club of his life in the back, where he was going to be a legend, just to become one more at Real Madrid. Plus, it seems pretty damn obvious that he’s not even adapting. He’s two games away from them turning on him. You’ve got to be retarded,” tweeted a popular Barca account.

Trent again went viral with his head in his hand after compatriot Harry Kane doubled Bayern’s lead at the time of publishing.

And that prediction from a Culer will ring true. Should Madrid go on to lose the first leg, you can guarantee the Spanish press will be just as brutal.
