Sami Khedira has been confirmed as an assistant coach in José Mourinho’s Real Madrid coaching staff, marking his return to the club ahead of the 2026-27 season.
The German World Cup winner, who was a key player during Mourinho’s three-year tenure at the club from 2010-2013, will take up his first senior coaching role. Khedira spent several years as a match commentator after retiring as a player in 2021.
Mourinho, who signed Khedira in the summer of 2010 and made him a crucial starter during his time at the Bernabéu, has brought the 34-year-old back to the club as part of his wider coaching staff restructure. The appointment reunites the former manager and player as they prepare for the new campaign.
Khedira joins fellow assistant coaches João Tralhão and Pedro Machado, with António Dias handling fitness, Roberto Merella as performance analyst, and Nuno Santos as the new goalkeeping coach.
