- If his future is staying at loan outfit Lyon, however, Endrick will oblige “gladly”.
Real Madrid striker Endrick said he’ll do “what God tells me, what my wife tells me” when it comes to returning to his parent club or possibly continuing at Lyon.
The Brazilian’s €60 million transfer from Palmeiras hasn’t worked out so far. Unfortunately for the youngster, the summer of 2024 also marked Kylian Mbappe‘s arrival at the Bernabeu.
Frozen out in the Frenchman’s shadow for a season-and-a-half, he demonstrated maturity by making a temporary January switch to Lyon.
In France, though, Endrick has found the confidence boost he needed with eight goals, seven assists and almost 1,500 minutes’ playing time across top European competitions.
AS reported that Madrid have already told the player’s camp he’ll come back to the Spanish capital ahead of 2026/2027. If he has to carry on at Lyon, however, and help with their Champions League campaign, that’s something the teenager will do happily.
“I will do what God tells me, what my wife tells me. If I have to stay at Lyon, I’ll gladly stay,” he told Lyon’s official website.
“If I have to return to Real Madrid, I will. If Real want to send me somewhere else, I’ll go. But it is God’s decision that will tell me what I should do,” he added.
Real Madrid will have the last word on Endrick’s destiny
With all due respect to Endrick’s faith and his wife, however, it is ultimately Real Madrid that have the final say on his next steps.
As Los Blancos are the player’s owner, he’ll have to report to preseason duty at Valdebebas following the World Cup if that’s what President Florentino Perez wants.
In the first team squad and probably under a new head coach, Endrick will again face competition from Mbappe. But as the latter’s recent time on the sidelines has shown, there’ll be opportunities upon occasion.
More immediately, however, we’ve seen this season that nobody has really nailed down the right wing spot for themselves. This comes amid injuries for Rodrygo and Arda Guler (who operates centrally too) while Franco Mastantuono has struggled as well.
This is an area of the pitch where Endrick has most commonly played for Lyon, and we might see him there too at Madrid as they attempt to win major silverware again next term.
