Cucurella Has No Doubts as He Begins Real Madrid Career

Marc Cucurella has no second thoughts about swapping Chelsea for Real Madrid. The Spain left-back completed his medical and first training session at Valdebebas on Monday and, speaking to the club’s media, left no doubt about the switch. “I think it’s very hard to turn down the opportunity to play for a club like this. I didn’t have any doubts,” the Spain international said.

Cucurella, a €60m arrival from Chelsea, was one of the internationals to return to training on Monday as José Mourinho welcomed back the bulk of his squad. He is one of six summer signings reshaping the side, and he made clear the pull of the Santiago Bernabéu was impossible to ignore, as reported by Managing Madrid.

Cucurella eyes his first Bernabeu night

The defender says he has watched the club’s European nights only as a spectator until now, and cannot wait to feel them from the inside.

“I’ve seen all those magical nights as a spectator. To have the chance to experience it firsthand, to be a part of something great, I think it’s a huge responsibility and a wonderful challenge. I’m looking forward to playing our first home game and meeting the fans.”

Cucurella will get his chance soon enough. Real Madrid face Deportivo La Coruña in the Teresa Herrera Trophy on Wednesday, the club’s final pre-season test before the new LaLiga campaign begins.
