  • Real Madrid legend Dani Carvajal isn’t expected to renew his contract.
  • His injury also means he’s unlikely to play again this season.
  • The right back also has a “foot and a half” out of Spain’s World Cup squad.

Real Madrid legend Dani Carvajal has said “goodbye to everything” according to MARCA.

Ahead of Espanyol on Sunday, one of the biggest pieces of news coming out of Valdebebas is that the right back is injured once more.

“After the tests carried out on our player Dani Carvajal by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a fissure of the distal phalanx of the fifth toe of his right foot,” an official statement on the matter read.

At first, the likes of AS and MARCA reported that Carvajal will miss Espanyol and the Clasico. It was added that the last day of the season against Athletic Club is a return target.

Now, however, the consensus at the latter paper is that Carvajal has said “goodbye to everything”.

Real Madrid won’t renew Dani Carvajal’s contract

According to transfer market expert Matteo Moretto, Los Blancos have already decided not to renew Carvajal’s terms. They expire on June 30, making him a free agent in the very near future.

Carvajal now faces a race against time to be fit for Athletic Club. In the Bernabeu, a modern day legend with six Champions League titles and 13 years of services can receive the send-off he deserves.

At 34, this isn’t the end of Carvajal’s career. Though it does look like his days in white side of the Spanish capital are done

In a further blow to the proud patriot, though, Carvajal’s chances of making Luis de la Fuente’s Spain World Cup squad are described as “impossible”.

Featuring sporadically in 2025/2026 and often injured, other options such as Marcos Llorente and Spurs’ Pedro Porro are in a lot better shape and playing more frequently at the top level.

A born winner at heart, though, Carvajal will not give up until it’s over. His first port of call is getting fit again within the two week timeframe AS quoted. Then, it’s a case of trying to push Trent Alexander-Arnold out of Alvaro Arbeloa’s starting line up.
