More injury news for Real Madrid. As confirmed by the club in a communicado, Dani Carvajal will be ruled out of this weekend’s must-win La Liga match against Espanyol.
“After the tests carried out on our player Dani Carvajal by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a fissure of the distal phalanx of the fifth toe of his right foot,” a statement read.
Added was the usual “pending evolution” phrase. This means that no time frame given for the veteran’s absence. According to AS, however, Carvajal expects to be out for two weeks. This means he’ll miss Sunday’s meeting with Espanyol, plus El Clasico against FC Barcelona at the Spotify Camp Nou on May 10.
Carvajal reportedly sees himself playing again before the end of the season. There’ll be three fixtures to spare by the time he could be fit. But he could aim for an away trip to Sevilla on May 17th, while sitting out Oviedo a few days before.
When will Carvajal be available again for Real Madrid?
MARCA says that the Athletic Club fixture is when Carvajal will lace his boots up again. That could be on May 24th, with just over a month before his Real Madrid contract expires on June 30.
That means that Carvajal’s future is up in the air after more than a decade at the Bernabeu. Yet he has more pressing matters than what happens next season. The immediate mission is convincing Luis de la Fuente. This will probably be his last World Cup, and he has to convince he’s worthy of making Spain’s squad.
For most of 2026, he’s been unconvincing to Alvaro Arbeloa having lost his spot to Trent Alexander-Arnold. Against Espanyol, the Englishman is likely to become the right back with the most appearances for Madrid this term on 19 outings.
Injuries have been a common theme this term for Carvajal, however, with Fede Valverde also filling in as a full back when needed.
