Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe is suffering from an overload in the hamstring of his left leg, according to MARCA.
With his team winning 1-0 in La Cartuja against Real Betis, Mbappe asked Alvaro Arbeloa‘s bench to come off and exited the action.
Unfortunately for Los Blancos, Hector Bellerin then equalised in stoppage time. This means they’re now eight points behind FC Barcelona, which could become 11 at the La Liga summit should they beat Getafe for the first time since September 2019 later this afternoon.
With the Clasico ahead on May 10, and Eder Militao and Arda Guler already falling to injuries for the rest of the season, it’s natural to panic about what could happen with Mbappe.
The fact he could walk off the pitch is perhaps a good sign. Though we’ve recently seen Raphinha and Lamine Yamal sidelined for five weeks with hamstring issues.
Post-match, a furious Alvaro Arbeloa said he had “no idea” what had happened with the Frenchman. “He had discomfort and we are going to see how he evolves the next few days,” the underfire coach further offered.
Further tests for Mbappe by Real Madrid medical experts
While the first tests point to the mentioned overload, there’ll be more exams on Saturday when the team returns to training at Valdebebas.
It’s thought that Mbappe asked to come off because of how close we are to the World Cup. After reaching the last two finals with France with a 1-1 record, the 27-year-old having to miss Les Bleus’ upcoming campaign in North America would be a disaster to put it mildly.
At present, it looks like Militao, a year older, could sit this one out and be unavailable to former Bernabeu boss Carlo Ancelotti and Brazil – just like Rodrygo.
