At a glance

  • Arda Guler and Eder Militao are out for the rest of the season.
  • The Brazilian had only just returned to action since a December knock, while the Turk was enjoying his best campaign so far at the Bernabeu.
  • This comes as a double blow to manager Alvaro Arbeloa ahead of Real Betis and El Clasico.

Real Madrid have received a double blow ahead of facing Real Betis on Friday. As reported by numerous outlets, Arda Guler and Eder Militao are out for the rest of the season.

The pair have suffered femoral bicep injuries. While the Turk has picked up the knock in his right leg, the Brazilian has it in his left according to MARCA.

This development couldn’t have occurred at a worse time for Alvaro Arbeloa. Madrid are currently trying to keep their La Liga title dream alive trailing bitter rival FC Barcelona by nine points.

It’s also worrying for Carlo Ancelotti and the Brazil national team, however. As a consequence, Militao’s presence at the World Cup is now up in the air.

Bad feelings during Real Madrid Vs. Alaves

Both players picked up their knocks in the 2-1 win at the Bernabeu. While Militao noticed his trouble immediately and asked to be taken off, Guler’s concern came later.

Alarm bells were set off by the Turk not making Arbeloa’s squad list for Betis. Since then, news has broken of his season-ending setback after doing an MRI.

Militao comes out of this worse than GulerH

Having his fantastic campaign ended is sad for Guler. Yet Militao is without a doubt the worse effected.

He’d only just returned from tendon damage in December, following ACL tears in 2023 and 2024. His comeback was immediately felt in the early April loss to Mallorca, as he came off the bench to equalise with a bullet header.

Though Madrid didn’t manage to advance, he played well against Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarterfinals and looked to be on the road to ending the term well for club and country.

Now however, doubts creep in about his long-term future at Madrid and reliability. In the more immediate sense, he’s at risk of missing the World Cup for Brazil which would be a huge blow to Ancelotti in being unable to call on arguably his best centre back.

Furthermore, it goes without saying that Guler and Militao will miss the Clasico on May 10th against FC Barcelona which will decide the La Liga title at the Spotify Camp Nou.
