Nuno Santos has been appointed as Real Madrid’s first-team goalkeeping coach, replacing Luis Llopis as part of José Mourinho’s extensive staff restructure.
Santos, who has previously worked alongside Mourinho at Tottenham Hotspur, AS Roma, and Benfica, will oversee the development of Thibaut Courtois and Andriy Lunin, as well as the academy goalkeepers.
Luis Llopis, who was instrumental in the development of Courtois and the goalkeeping department through both Zinedine Zidane and Carlo Ancelotti’s reigns, departs from his first-team role though remains at the club in another capacity yet to be confirmed.
The appointment is part of Mourinho’s complete overhaul of the coaching structure at the Bernabéu as he prepares for his first full season in charge. Santos’ experience at multiple top European clubs is expected to bring fresh tactical approaches to Real Madrid’s goalkeeping setup.
