Mourinho Set to Broker Peace: Real Madrid Accelerates Vinicius Junior Contract Talks in Late July

Jose Mourinho has taken direct control of efforts to resolve the Real Madrid contract impasse with Vinicius Junior, positioning himself as mediator in what has become the club’s most pressing off-season negotiation.

The Brazilian winger’s salary demands have created a standoff with the club’s wage structure: Vinicius is seeking annual compensation close to €30 million net — roughly equivalent to Kylian Mbappé’s package — plus a renewal bonus. The club has resisted, concerned the figure would destabilize Florentino Perez’s carefully calibrated payroll architecture.

Mourinho, who sees Vinicius as a cornerstone of his squad, has requested involvement in the upcoming talks. Sources close to the negotiations suggest the new manager is optimistic: the club has scheduled a formal meeting for late July, and insiders report genuine appetite on both sides to reach a compromise before the 2026-27 season kicks off.

The current deal expires in summer 2027. If talks fail this month, the risk of Vinicius seeking a move in 2027 looms, a scenario Real Madrid will be keen to avoid given his status as one of Europe’s most destructive wide players.
