Eduardo Camavinga wants to stay at Real Madrid this summer and beyond according to MARCA.
The Frenchman is at his lowest point since joining from Rennes as an 18-year-old via a €30 million, 2021 transfer. His tenure has brought about two Champions League titles so far in 2022 and 2024. But Camavinga is now being blamed for Los Blancos’ latest exit from the competition.
He was already under-fire for his performances such as that in the 2-1 loss to Mallorca. But things went from bad to worse for Camavinga upon entering a quarterfinal second leg clash against Bayern Munich.
Madrid were winning the fixture 3-2, which meant that extra time bekckoned with the score tied 4-4 on aggregate.
In the dying minutes, however, Camavinga got a cheap second yellow for not giving the ball up when Bayern needed to take a free kick. His dismissal paved the way for brilliant strikes from Luis Diaz and Michael Olise, sending the Bavarians through to a semifinal date with Paris Saint-Germain.
The same newspaper reported that Real Madrid teammates found Camavinga crying “inconsolably” alone in the locker room. Yet still he wants to stay at the Bernabeu at a time when his future is in doubt.
Camavinga isn’t interested in swapping Real Madrid for PSG
With AS reporting that PSG want to buy him for €70 million, Camavinga doesn’t wish to switch allegiances any time soon.
He now has seven league games to improve and put recent history behind him. Furthermore, the World Cup also offers another platform to impress.
Whether it’s with Alvaro Arbeloa or a head coach replacement, a new season is a fresh start for the 23-year-old too.
Before that is Tuesday’s hosting of Alaves, though. And we’ll see how the Bernabeu reacts whether Camavinga starts – unlikely – or once more enters the fray as a substitute.
