Updated Coverage: Real Betis vs Real Madrid (4 September 2026)
This original fixture guide has been updated on 4 September 2026 with the latest kick-off details, broadcast information and squad news. Real Madrid travel to Seville top of La Liga and unbeaten after three matches, while Real Betis arrive off the back of a heavy defeat. Here is where things stand ahead of Friday night’s Matchday 4 clash.
Match Details and How to Watch
Real Betis host Real Madrid on Friday 4 September at 21:00 CEST, which is 20:00 in the UK and 15:00 on the US East Coast. The fixture kicks off La Liga’s fourth round of matches for the season.
Betis are not playing at their usual home, the Benito Villamarín. Redevelopment work at the stadium has moved the match to the Estadio de La Cartuja, Seville’s larger multi-purpose venue that regularly stages cup finals and international fixtures.
Team News and Unbeaten Form
José Mourinho’s Real Madrid arrive in excellent form, having won all three of their opening league games without dropping a point. The most recent of those results was a 4-0 win over Málaga, a scoreline that underlines the attacking momentum building under the Portuguese coach.
That form has come despite a stretched squad. Real Madrid are currently missing seven players, and the travelling group for this trip includes four youth-team inclusions: Sergio Martínez, Javi Navarro, Mario Rivas and Jorge Cestero. Their presence in the squad reflects the depth Mourinho has had to call on rather than any change in first-team pecking order, and no further detail on the nature or length of the absences has been confirmed.
Betis go into the game under very different circumstances. Manuel Pellegrini’s side began the season with back-to-back clean sheets, a solid platform that suggested a settled defensive unit. That form disappeared in their last outing, a 5-2 defeat to Levante that will have raised questions inside the Betis camp about how they cope with sides who take the game to them. Facing a Real Madrid team scoring freely and unbeaten will be a stern test of whether that defeat was a one-off.
Where to Watch Real Betis vs Real Madrid Live
In Spain, Real Betis vs Real Madrid is being shown live on LaLiga TV via Movistar Plus+, with radio commentary available on Radio MARCA. No UK or US broadcast details have been confirmed for this fixture, so supporters outside Spain should check their usual La Liga broadcast partner nearer kick-off.
The move to the Estadio de La Cartuja does not affect the broadcast arrangements. Coverage will follow the standard Movistar Plus+ schedule used for La Liga fixtures involving Real Madrid this season.
What Happens Next
A win in Seville would extend Real Madrid’s perfect start to four matches and keep them clear at the top of the table heading into the next international break. For Mourinho, managing a squad missing seven players while blooding four academy graduates will remain a balancing act in the weeks ahead, particularly with the club operating under LaLiga financial limits published this season that shape how the squad can be strengthened.
Those constraints also explain why there is renewed focus on squad options remaining at the club, with every senior player’s fitness and form carrying extra weight until the numbers missing from the travelling squad return. For Betis, the priority is simpler: rediscover the defensive discipline of the opening two rounds against a Real Madrid side showing no early signs of slowing down.
