Real Madrid ran a double training session on the second day of pre-season on Tuesday, with Eder Militao, Ferland Mendy and Rodrygo again working apart from the group as they continue their individual recovery programmes.
According to a same-day update from the club, Jose Mourinho’s available group, stripped of anyone still involved at the World Cup, completed a high-intensity fitness test at Ciudad Real Madrid in the morning before returning to the pitch for a second session in the afternoon. The early-stage schedule follows on from Mourinho’s first session in charge on Monday, when he worked with a similarly small group as the rest of the World Cup contingent remained on international duty.
Jose Mourinho Drills Depleted Squad Alongside Academy Prospects
The afternoon work began in the gym before players moved outside for a physical circuit alongside a group of academy prospects, followed by possession drills under pressure, ball-circulation exercises finishing at goal, and small-sided matches on a reduced pitch, the club confirmed. Militao, Mendy and Rodrygo were present at the training ground but continued their separate recovery work rather than joining the main group.
The trio’s continued absence from full training keeps their return timelines under close watch heading into the new campaign, coming only a day after Real Madrid confirmed Thibaut Courtois had avoided a serious injury scare of his own. Mourinho’s squad is expected to fill out considerably over the coming days and weeks as his World Cup semi-finalists, including Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Junior, are reintegrated on a staggered basis once their international summers end.
