Eder Militao is back in training at Real Madrid, with Bernabéu Digital reporting the Brazilian defender returned to the grass at Valdebebas on Thursday, around four months after rupturing a hamstring tendon — the injury that cost him his place at the World Cup.
The timing could hardly be better for José Mourinho. With Jude Bellingham also back in the group, the outlet notes the whole squad is now immersed in training together — a far cry from the early weeks of pre-season, when injuries left Mourinho working with a short squad of just 20 players.
Militao chasing redemption
Few players deserve the break more. Militao’s recent seasons have been repeatedly wrecked by injury, and Bernabéu Digital notes the defender has admitted in interviews that the physical setbacks have weighed on his career. Even so, the report adds that he has never stopped working, remains determined to re-establish himself among the world’s best centre-backs, and that the sight of him touching a ball again has fuelled optimism at the club that this recovery will be the definitive one.
What comes next
Los Blancos close out pre-season against Schalke on Sunday before the LaLiga opener, and nobody at Valdebebas will rush the Brazilian back. But a fit Militao competing with Antonio Rüdiger, Ibrahima Konaté, Dean Huijsen and Raúl Asencio would hand Mourinho exactly the kind of defensive depth a title push demands.
