Federico Valverde Plays Full Match As Uruguay Draw 2-2 With Cape Verde

Federico Valverde played the full 90 minutes as Uruguay drew 2-2 with Cape Verde in their second 2026 World Cup group match in Miami.

The Real Madrid midfielder started and completed the match, with Uruguay left on two points after a result that keeps Group H finely balanced before their final fixture against Spain.

Cape Verde struck first through Kevin Pina in the 21st minute, but Uruguay turned the game around before half-time through Maxi Araujo in the 44th minute and Agustin Canobbio in first-half stoppage time. Helio Valera then levelled in the 61st minute to secure the 2-2 draw, according to Real Madrid’s official update.

Valverde And Uruguay Face Spain Decider

The result leaves Uruguay second in the group, level with Cape Verde on two points, and makes Saturday’s meeting with Spain in Guadalajara decisive for their route to the round of 16.

For Real Madrid supporters, the key detail is Valverde’s workload. The 27-year-old remains central for Uruguay and was trusted to see out the full contest in a tense World Cup setting.

That underlines his importance to Marcelo Bielsa’s side, but it also means Madrid will keep watching his minutes closely while Uruguay chase qualification from a group that is still very much alive.
