Diario AS has reported that Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga has been identified by Paris Saint-Germain as a prospective signing for the summer transfer window.
In addition to the defending European champions, there is interest in the former Rennes midfielder’s services from a number of Premier League sides as well, amid talk that Los Blancos are prepared to cash-in on him for €70 million this year having been left frustrated by his fitness woes and lack of development.
Thiago Pitarch‘s emergence from the Castilla side has threatened to usurp Camavinga and his already sparse minutes, further pushing Madrid into pondering over the 23-year-old’s sale before his valuation drops.
Camavinga’s Career at Real Madrid so far
Real Madrid signed Eduardo Camavinga from Rennes for €30 million in the final hours of the summer transfer window of 2021, and the French international made a quick impact at the club.
After scoring on his debut at the Bernabeu against Celta Vigo in La Liga, his impact off the bench was vital in the Champions League in his first season.
The kings of Europe flexed their comeback credentials in knockout ties against Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Manchester City, before winning the title at Liverpool’s expense in Paris to complement a fairly comfortable success in the Spanish top-flight.
Camavinga remained a key squad player in the years that followed, playing several positions in midfield and also as a left back under Carlo Ancelotti.
Yet, at a young age, the youngster continued to face fitness issues and missed a few weeks of action every now and then, consequently failing to nail down a primary berth in the starting eleven.
His most noteworthy appearance for Los Blancos came as a starter in the 2024 Champions League final as they beat Borussia Dortmund at Wembley Stadium to seal their 15th title in the competition.
Though he remains a fan favourite due to his jovial character and a particularly close friendship with Vinicius Junior, Real Madrid don’t give much time to anybody, and Camavinga’s days at the Bernabeu might be numbered.
PSG’s Interest Ignites Swap Deal Possibility
Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid were at a crossroads for several years owing to the European Super League project, which Florentino Perez was determined to make a success, and Kylian Mbappe‘s free transfer to the Spanish capital causing further turbulence.
However, Perez’s recent annulment of the Super League project to reconcile with UEFA has seen the relations between the two sides improve, and the by-product of that could be Camavinga’s transfer back to his homeland.
PSG’s interest in Camavinga could convince Madrid to push the Ligue 1 side into considering a swap deal for Vitinha – rated at €100 million – and above all let go of Camavinga for the Portuguese midfielder.
The Portuguese playmaker is what Madrid need at this moment in time. Since Toni Kroos and Luka Modric left the club, Alvaro Arbeloa’s side have lacked any sort of creativity in the deeper-lying positions in midfield and Vitinha’s attributes, particularly his ability to drive the ball into the final third, could make Los Blancos a much stronger side on the transitions.
And although he said that he remains happy in France for now, an official approach from Madrid could be too good to turn down for Vitinha – as has been the case for several elite players the world over.
