# Super Cup 2027 Heads to Istanbul as Real Madrid Draw Real Sociedad

The Spanish Football Federation has confirmed that the 2027 Spanish Super Cup will be played in Istanbul, with the four-team tournament running from 2–7 February at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium. Real Madrid will face Real Sociedad in one semi-final, while Barcelona take on Atlético Madrid in the other.

## Why the Super Cup is leaving Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia, the tournament’s regular home since it adopted the final-four format, is unavailable in 2027 because of a scheduling clash with the AFC Asian Cup, as [Managing Madrid reports](https://www.managingmadrid.com/latest-news/111271/the-2027-spanish-super-cup-will-have-a-new-home). The RFEF is understood to have weighed seven proposals, with Qatar among the leading candidates, before settling on Istanbul, and the competition is expected to return to Saudi Arabia in 2028. Saudi involvement will not disappear entirely, with Riyadh Season reportedly set to sponsor the Istanbul edition. The Atatürk needs little introduction: it staged Liverpool’s famous 2005 Champions League final comeback against AC Milan and Manchester City’s 2023 triumph over Inter.

Los Blancos qualified as LaLiga runners-up, while Barcelona arrive as champions and defending Super Cup winners after beating Real Madrid in January’s final. Real Sociedad and Atlético booked their places by reaching the Copa del Rey final.

## A February target for Mourinho

After a trophyless 2025–26, the trip to Turkey gives José Mourinho an early, winnable target in his second spell in charge — and [Mourinho’s newly completed squad](https://readrealmadrid.com/madrid-transfers-done-squad-complete/) was assembled with exactly these knockout occasions in mind. Revenge over Barcelona in a potential final would make the detour to Istanbul taste all the sweeter.
