# Madrid Femenino Draw Ajax in Champions League Qualifier

## Madrid Femenino Draw Ajax in Champions League Qualifier

Real Madrid Femenino know their first European hurdle of the season: Ajax. Pau Quesada’s side will face the Dutch club over two legs in the Women’s Champions League qualifying round, [Bernabéu Digital reports](https://www.bernabeudigital.com/futbol-femenino/real-madrid-femenino-conoce-rival-fase-previa-champions-ajax-345520), with the winner of the tie advancing to the tournament proper.

The first leg takes place in Amsterdam on 26 August, before the return leg is played in Madrid on 2 September — a small but welcome advantage, with the decisive night coming on home soil.

## A testing start for Madrid Femenino

The schedule is unforgiving. Sandwiched between the two European nights, Las Blancas open their Liga F campaign against Atlético de Madrid, meaning two of their first three competitive matches will decide whether they reach Europe’s top table at all. Quesada’s players are closing out a strong pre-season, with one warm-up remaining against Deportivo Abanca — days after the men’s side [lifted the Teresa Herrera against Deportivo](https://readrealmadrid.com/teresa-herrera-real-madrid-win-deportivo/) in A Coruña.

## Frankfurt precedent offers hope

There is encouragement in recent history. Real Madrid Femenino found themselves in exactly this position last season, drawn against Eintracht Frankfurt in the qualifying round, and came through the tie to take their place in Europe’s premier competition. Get past Ajax, and Los Merengues’ women will be back among the continent’s elite — starting in Amsterdam in under two weeks.
