# Kylian Mbappe Kidnap Plot: Real Madrid Star Named on Gang List

[Kylian Mbappe](https://readrealmadrid.com/tag/kylian-mbappe/)‘s name has surfaced in a French criminal investigation that has nothing to do with football. According to *Le Parisien*, the Real Madrid forward appeared on a list of 26 potential targets drawn up by a gang run from a prison cell, and the reported **Kylian Mbappe kidnap plot** is now part of an ongoing case in the French courts.

## What Le Parisien says about the Kylian Mbappe kidnap plot

As relayed by [Marca](https://www.marca.com/futbol/real-madrid/2026/09/02/mbappe-objetivo-secuestro-banda-raperos-ejecutivos.html), the French paper reports that investigators seized two mobile phones from an 18-year-old inmate identified only as Clement L., who was already behind bars for armed robbery and procuring. Analysis of those handsets is said to have produced a list of 26 people the group had in its sights: wealthy businessmen, musicians and footballers.

Among the names and addresses reportedly recovered were a wholesaler in the 19th arrondissement of Paris, several jewellers and a meat wholesaler in Val-d’Oise. “He also wanted to target a rapper and the footballer Kylian Mbappe,” a judicial source told the paper.

The teenager is alleged to have issued instructions from his cell at Villepinte prison in Seine-Saint-Denis using Snapchat and the alias “Lester Z”. He came onto investigators’ radar, Marca reports, after a watchmaker was attacked in Neuilly-sur-Seine last April.

## A case that is still open

[Mundo Deportivo](https://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbol/real-madrid/20260902/1004222594/le-parisien-banda-liderada-joven-encarcelado-planeaba-secuestrar-mbappe.html), also citing *Le Parisien*, adds that Clement L. was charged alongside an alleged accomplice on 21 August in Nanterre with organised robbery. He is suspected of coordinating a run of home invasions and abductions either carried out or in preparation between 11 April and 19 August, across Neuilly-sur-Seine, Saint-Brice-sous-Foret and Santenay.

Two things are worth stating plainly. First, nothing happened to Mbappe: the reporting describes a list and a plan, not an attempt. Second, the main accused denies being the brains of the operation. He has reportedly accepted the seriousness of what he is charged with but insists he acted only as an intermediary between an alleged leader and the people carrying out the raids. French investigators are still working out the true size of the network and what each suspect actually did, so the picture may yet change.

Neither Real Madrid nor Mbappe had commented publicly at the time of writing, and none of the Spanish reporting suggests anything has changed around the forward’s security arrangements. Los Blancos, as a rule, do not discuss player security in public.

## A jarring backdrop to a flying start

The timing is uncomfortable, because on the pitch this has been about as good a month as Mbappe could have asked for. The France forward has been the focal point of [Jose Mourinho](https://readrealmadrid.com/news/jose-mourinho-real-madrid-different-level-interview/)‘s rebuilt Real Madrid, who have won all three of their opening La Liga fixtures against Espanyol, [Real Sociedad](https://readrealmadrid.com/news/real-madrid-4-1-real-sociedad-mbappe-hat-trick/) and Malaga. He marked the Real Sociedad win with a hat-trick on his way to [100 goals in a Real Madrid shirt](https://readrealmadrid.com/news/mbappe-100-real-madrid-goals-cristiano-ronaldo-record/), a landmark he reached faster than almost anyone who has worn the shirt before him.

A story like this one is a reminder of the other side of that fame. The detail in *Le Parisien*‘s reporting – addresses pulled off a phone, orders sent through a messaging app from inside a prison cell – is uncomfortable reading for any player whose wealth and movements are as public as Mbappe’s, and it lands in the same week the squad scattered for international duty.

For now this is a legal story rather than a football one. The case remains open, no charge relates to any attack on Mbappe, and Real Madrid’s attention is already turning to the trip to Betis once the international break ends. It is a jolt all the same, and Madridistas will want reassurance that the club’s most valuable asset is being looked after away from the pitch as carefully as he is on it.
